To accompany the academic and cultural components of the program and ensure participants receive an in depth understanding of American society, family, and daily life, participants will be paired with host and friendship families in the local community.
Participants will connect with host families on weekends, holidays, or spend semester breaks with their families. Participants and host families may have weekly meals together or engage in other cultural activities of interest.
Host institutions are encouraged to utilize their existing host family or family-friendship program resources to connect YEAR students with host families. Host institutions should ensure potential families are fully vetted and have undergone background checks to participate in the program.
